Eastbourne Strollers match report

FC Los Amigos (A)  2  -  Eastbourne Borough Strollers  0

Showing signs of travel weariness, Strollers started the tour hesitantly against a team who were well organised and at home playing on a fast surface. Los Amigos made good use of their big centre forward, who kept laying the ball off well. In a game of few chances, two were well taken by Amigos. Stand-in goalkeeper Terry Stubbings, was close to getting to the ball on both occasions but just a fraction too slow each time. Strollers man of the match was Roy Fouracres, who was strong in the centre of defence.

FC Los Amigos (B)   0  -  Eastbourne Borough Strollers 1

Still without Goalkeeper, Maurice Lawlor, who was ill, John Bartlett took a turn between the sticks and helped ensure a clean sheet. Strollers played a much more settled game and began to string some passes together. Mark Hardcastle got in some good positions and so had four chances at goal but none of them resulted in a goal, although one cannoned back off the crossbar.
Gordon Harrison also came close.
It was scintillating work on the left wing by Michael Richardson, Gordon and John Langton, the ball came to Carl Hodgkinson and his shot took a deflection, resulting in an own goal by Amigos' Alan.
With the defence playing well, throughout, Strollers made sure Goalkeeper John had little to do and ran out the winners. There should be a special mention of Stevie Pullman who 9 weeks ago had knee reconstruction but looked assured at left back.

Both games were played in a good spirit and refereed fairly and consistently. The morning finished in a local bar with Amigos hosting Strollers to beer and tapas.
